#RevPit Bio Hop post

Okay, so I haven’t blogged in awhile, but today that changes! At least for this post, I’m doing for #RevPit Blog Hop. I love these events because I always meet at least one awesome writer virtually and keep in touch.

I have always considered myself a generalist. I want to know a little bit about as much as I can, I would say everything, but that’s impossible, so—my favorite subjects:

Dogs Animals Botany Collections & Collectors (matchbooks, spoons, thimbles, etc.) The ocean and sea life Lighthouses Death with a capital D lots of other things too…

I write adult novels (and maybe someday Young Adult for my nieces) with speculative elements. I also write flash fiction, short stories, and narrative non-fiction. As for my novel writing, it tends to border literary and general fiction, but there is always a little extra something that makes the reader wonder what is possible in the near future.

In most of my writing, I focus on the emotional life of my characters and how they relate to each other. I almost always include an animal or animals as part of a scene or theme and I like a good bit of quirk in my stories as well.

My current novel can be described as:

Madelena Montgomery, Madds for short, is an allergy-ridden conservation guide with a rotten attitude, complicated relationships, and most notably, massive responsibilities after her father’s sudden death. While sifting through her father’s belongings, she will be forced to piece together the details of his secret life, pay his debts, and put in motion a process that could save the lives of people close to her.

Books I love:

A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki The Diving Pool by Yoko Ogawa Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood The Lefthand of Darkness by Ursula LeGuin Kindred by Octavia Butler The Hearing Trumpet by Leonora Carrington Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

This year I’m about 97% sure I’ll be entering into #RevPit. I entered a couple years ago with my first novel and while mine didn’t get through to the revision round, I did get some full requests from editors and received some very helpful feedback!
